MACON — North Hall pinned down its first-ever state wrestling title Saturday holding off Bremen 42-22 in the Class AAA State Duals championship at the Macon Coliseum.

The Tojans were one of four northeast Georgia area teams to capture state titles on Saturday.

The Trojans got a solid team effort with four consecutive pins late in the match from 113-pounds to junior Bryson Smith clinching the victory with a pin at 132.

North Hall coach David Nichols said it was a special moment for the program.

"The best thing about it was that we got to do it together as a community," Nichols said. "It' was just a tremendous feeling. This reaffirms to the guys that all the work work they have put in pays off."


Varsity Team takes 9th at Jazz Town Duals




Jazz Town Duals held at the Xavier University Convocation center in New Orleans, June 16-18.

The Trojans finished ninth out of the 30-team field, which featured some of the top high school and club programs from across the country.

North Hall opened pool competition on Saturday going 2-2 to finish in the top three. After falling to the New Orleans Wrestling Club and Best Trained out of Allen, Texas the Trojans defeated the CCISD Wrestling Club out of Houston, Texas, 54-27, and Granite City High School out of Illinois, 45-33. With the top three finish North Hall qualified for the 16-team championship bracket on Sunday. 

The Trojans opened Sunday‚Äč's championship bracket with a loss to reigning Class AAAAAAA Georgia champion Camden County. All teams that lost in the first round of the championship bracket were then moved to a new eight-team bracket.

In the first round the Trojans defeated CWC out of Tate, Florida to advance to the semifinals, where they defeated Southmoore, Oklahoma. The final round featured North Hall versus Buford with North Hall narrowly getting the victory 41-37 to finish in ninth place.

Going undefeated for the Trojans was Jacob Pedraza at 111-pounds. Jack Whitmire (105) and John Pedraza (131) finished the tournament 7-1.


North Hall's starting line up featured three freshmen, seven sophomores, three juniors, and just two seniors.

Varsity Team Set to Travel to New Orleans


The varsity wrestling team will be traveling to New Orleans to compete in the Jazz Town Duals Folkstyle tournament.  The tournament will be held June 17-18 on the campus of Xavier University.  The field features top ranked high school programs from througout the the southeast, as well as several all star travel teams.
